South Carolina is located in the southern part of the United States of America.

History
It is one of the Thirteen Colonies that took part in the American Revolution against the British Empire. It is also the first state that seceded to create the Confederate States of America.

South Carolina is named after King Charles I of England (Carolus is Latin for Charles).

The United States Navy has many ships named USS South Carolina to honor the state.
