  Norway

The Kingdom of Norway is a country which has on its boundaries the countries of Sweden, Finland and Russia, and which is located on the west part of the Peninsula. As far as appearance is concerned, the figure is such that it looks like it has been lengthened, and the country is blessed with a huge coast. This long, narrow country counts as a member of its family places like Svalbard, Jan Mayen, Bouvet Island, Peter I Island and Queen Maud Land in Antarctica.

However in spite of the location of the places, exploring Norway is no big deal. The transport system is excellent with buses, airplanes, trains, metros, boats or even ‘streetcars’. These are easily available at all the right intervals and are considerably reasonable too. Once you are in Norway there will be no dearth of places to see, and sights to enjoy. However, marketing as ‘the land of the midnight sun’ has led to much confusion, as the ‘midnight sun’ cannot really be viewed from all parts of the country.

Therefore before starting the sightseeing, one must be well informed. Only about 33% of Norway is above the Arctic Circle. Added to this, the sun in the middle of the night can only be seen north of the same. Therefore the people who come to the southern parts of Norway, where the capital Oslo lies, miss out. But those lucky ones who do get to see the wonderful sight declare that the sun looks like it is dangling above the horizon and the most dazzling colors are seen mirrored on the water. Other than this often misguided piece of information, one hears of magnificent NordKapp, or ‘North Cape’. It is famous for being the northernmost point in the whole of Europe, and is indeed a unique place.

One can take boat rides by the side of the shore and there are many such rides. Whether you want to journey through the entire coast or go visit a friendly fjord, or even halt near a glacier and go trekking-you have everything at your beck a call.

When we talk of Norway we cannot help but mention the famed ‘Fjords’ in various shapes and sizes, which adorn Norway. Found only in Iceland other than Norway, in the west coast of Europe, it is basically an expanse of a body of water, not very wide, between slopes or mountains, which lead up to the land. A hot tourist attraction, it is often decorated falls on the nearby mountains. The fjords often guide you to little towns or ranches. Though scantily populated it has the basic facilities- like boats and horses, ready to escort you to your destination. Away from the buzz of the city life, it is ideal to stay back here for a few days to let your hair down and relax.

In the city, you can find all the modern facilities; in the villages you can find the peaceful life. Basically, one can easily find one’s dream destination in Norway.
