History

The state of North Carolina is located in the southeastern part of the United States of America. North Carolina was one of the first English colonies in the Americas and it is also one of the original states of the Union.

Geographic Features
North Carolina is also the place where the Wright brothers successfully flew the first heavier-than-air aircraft on the beach of Kitty Hawk in 1903.

According to most people, the mountains that lie in the western parts of North Carolina are some of the most beautiful that can be found in the entire United States of America. The mountain rangers, the Great Smoky Mountains, the Appalachian Mountains, and the Blue Ridge Mountains - converge to the north of North Carolina. The resulting beauty is unique to this state and the combination of these three mountain rangers provides the perfect spot for all people who wish for a fun and adventurous vacations in the North Carolina vacation.

Within this three-mountain convergence like a diverse array of attractions that can be enjoyed by visitors to the North Carolina mountains. There are long stretches of wilderness that can be utilized by visitors for the purposes of camping. You can even stay in a historic cabin that closely resembles the dwellings of the early settlers. There are of course modern day resorts with state of the art facilities for those with conventional preferences.

The Appalachian Trail, Nantahala National Forest, and the Western North Carolina Nature Center are some of the exciting locations that you can visit in the mountains of North Carolina.

The Appalachian Trail
This is a footpath over 2000 miles long. It ranges from northern Georgia all the way to central Maine. The trail is one of the most beautiful you will witness and it winds through some of the most breathtaking sights among the mountains of North Carolina. The highest point in the trail is called the Clingmans Dome and it provides a breathtaking view of the surroundings. On clear days, visibility can be as good as 100 miles.

Nantahala National Forest
The forest covers several peaks and valleys of the western North Carolina mountains. It also covers the Tusquitee River. River rafting is one of the more popular diversions to be enjoyed in the Nantahala area. There are clam waters for beginners as well as class II and III rapids for more experienced rafters.

The Western North
The Western North Carolina Nature Center offers many attractions. It has a petting zoo, gardens, predator habitats, nocturnal hall, and many more entertaining and educational features.
