| Unique property consisting of two adjacent villas |
| |
|
| Costa del Sol, 20 mins inland, next to Lauro Golf course in Alhaurin de la Torre.
This is an unusual property consisting of two adjacent villas sharing same pool and BBQ – private and peaceful with fantastic sea and mountain views. We often take large parties of three generations from one family, who wish to be together yet desire a little privacy as well. We are ideally located for sea , lakes and mountains but away from the hustle, bustle and parking problems of the coast, with plenty of good restaurants nearby. Villas can sleep up to 14 or we can lease separately out of season. Our son- in- law is a qualified Adventure Consultant and can tailor make activities in the area for you, if required eg. Canyoning and gorge walking, kite and windsurfing, mountain and downhill cycling, water or even snow skiing ( 2˝ hrs away ) in Winter. |

| Alhaurin de la Torre
Alhaurín de la Torre is the border between the valley and the coast with a landscape spread amongst the sierra and the valley. It is only 20 minutes drive from the city of Malaga, and around the same distance to the lively resort of Torremolinos.
The parish church of San Sebastián is the most significant monument in this town. It was built in the 18th century with a cross base and Mudejar coffering The biggest attraction for visitors to Alhaurín de la Torre is undoubtedly the gardens of El Retiro. Founded in the 17th Century by Fray Alonso de Santo Tomás, Bishop of Málaga, and originally use by him as his retirement home (hence, El Retiro) the gardens display an impressive variety of plant and wild life. Each section attempts to recreate the natural habitat of the creatures housed in it, from semi-desert to tropical swamp. The manor house at its centre has also been impressively restored.
Alhaurin El Grande
Alhaurín el Grande has survived a great deal. Waves of invaders, epidemics of plague, even an earthquake in 1680. During the Peninsula War of 1808-14 it was occupied for four years by French troops and suffered considerable bombardment.
It would not be surprising, therefore, if all traces of its long past had been regularly obliterated. But some has miraculously survived. There is the 12th Century Moorish archway, the Arcos de Cobertizo, which, while not being in any way spectacular (it stands close to the church and now leads nowhere) but at least it represents a tangible link with the past. In the small plaza in front of the town hall, the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, are three Roman columns which were discovered close by at Fuente del Sol. Unlike some other villages in the hills, Alhaurín el Grande acknowledges that it has a history, and is quietly proud of it. The plaza, incidentally, has a superb view of the valley.
The Alhaurín gastronomy is ample and varied with typical plates such as: 'migas' breadcrumbs fried with garlic and 'gachas cachorreńas' porridge with spices, 'allullas', 'dolcas', patties, sauce, broths, garlic soup, and many desserts such as sponge cakes, oil buns, fritters, macaroons, date bread, egg rusks, fried rusks, french toast and oil cakes. |
